Segment vs list

Definition

In Klaviyo, a list is static: it holds the profiles that subscribed to it and only grows with new subscriptions. A segment is dynamic: it groups the profiles that meet a set of conditions, and grows or shrinks as their behavior changes.

How it is computed, where to read it

A list grows the audience: signup forms feed it, and it is the audience you keep in touch with through campaigns and flows.

A segment targets: sending a campaign to recent customers rather than the whole list, or triggering a flow when a profile meets a condition. Klaviyo updates it in real time.

KlaviBoard's Audience tab tracks signups and departures list by list, since that is where the audience is recruited.
