What does a paused flow cost?
A paused flow does not blink red: it drops off the send list, and the revenue it generated falls to zero while the rest of the account looks normal. Enter its monthly revenue and the days it stayed off to put a number on it. No sign-up, nothing leaves your browser.
The flow
Take the revenue attributed to the flow over its last 30 active days (Klaviyo shows it in the Flows tab). Nothing is sent, everything is computed in your browser.

What the detection delay changes
Same flow, same revenue: the only variable is when someone notices the pause.
A deliberate approximation: revenue is spread evenly over 30 days. A flow driven by a promo or a season is not; the figure gives the order of magnitude, not the cent.
Why a paused flow costs more than 2% of sends
According toOmnisend's ecommerce reports, automated emails make up only about 2% of sends but drive close to a third of email revenue (37% in 2024, 30% in 2025). A flow that is off is therefore no small leak: a paused abandoned cart is a revenue line that drops to zero.
The mechanics never change. Someone pauses a flow for a good reason, a promo to adjust, a link to fix, then the day goes by and nobody switches it back on. The only number that matters then is the delay before someone notices: that is what the simulator puts side by side.
Frequently asked questions
- Which revenue to enter?
- The revenue attributed to the flow over its last 30 active days, as Klaviyo shows it in the Flows tab for the account's conversion metric (usually Placed Order). If the flow is seasonal, take a comparable period from the previous year.
- Why spread revenue over 30 days?
- Because it is the only honest assumption without the flow's details. A welcome or abandoned cart flow runs fairly evenly; a post-purchase flow follows orders. The result is an order of magnitude, useful to decide, not an invoice.
- Is every paused flow a problem?
- No. A seasonal flow cut on purpose or a flow never turned on is normal. The case that costs is a flow that still had recipients right before it was paused: someone switched it off and forgot to switch it back on.
- Does Klaviyo warn you when a flow is paused?
- Klaviyo shows its alerts inside the account concerned: you have to open it to see them. Pausing a flow is a deliberate action, it triggers no notification outside the account. For a freelancer running several accounts, the delay between the pause and the next time the account is opened is what sets the cost.
- What to do when you find a pause?
- Turn the flow back on, check its trigger and filters, then compare the following days' revenue with the previous period to confirm it is running again. Note the pause date: it explains the month's dip in the client report.
To catch paused flows before the client does, the articlethe paused flow, Klaviyo's most expensive blind spotexplains what to watch. And for the cost of the subscription itself, theKlaviyo pricing calculatorgives each account's price.
Caught before the client calls you
KlaviBoard checks every flow's status across all your accounts, continuously, and flags a non-live flow that still had recipients over the previous period. The Free plan connects 3 accounts, no credit card.
