How Klaviyo bills email
A Klaviyo subscription is priced on the account's active profiles, in fixed tiers. Each tier includes 10 email sends per profile per month: 5,000 sends for 500 profiles, 100,000 for 10,000. The tiers are uneven, which makes the price hard to anticipate: from 10,000 to 13,500 profiles it rises by $25 every 500 profiles; from 15,000 to 25,000, by $25 every 5,000. The full list is below.
For a freelancer the question is not one account's price but the sum of all accounts, and above all the ones sitting a few hundred profiles below a tier. That is where suppressing inactive profiles before the billing date pays off. The calculator shows that headroom for each account.

Frequently asked questions
- What is an active profile in Klaviyo?
- According to Klaviyo's billing documentation, a billable profile is an active profile that can receive at least one type of marketing: a valid email address or phone number, not suppressed and not unsubscribed. Suppressed or unsubscribed profiles stay in the account for reporting but do not count.
- What happens when an account exceeds its tier?
- Klaviyo automatically moves the account up to the next tier based on active profile volume. For sends, two options: a flexible overage at the unit price of the current tier, or an upgrade to the next tier. Suppressing inactive profiles before the billing date avoids paying for profiles that no longer bring anything.
- Is Klaviyo free?
- Yes, up to 250 active profiles and 500 emails per month, plus $5 of mobile messaging. Beyond that, Klaviyo asks you to move to a paid plan, starting at $20 per month for 500 profiles.
- Does the calculator include SMS?
- No. SMS, MMS, WhatsApp and RCS are billed per message, at a rate that depends on the destination country and carrier fees. Klaviyo offers its own estimator for those channels on its pricing page.
- Why are prices in USD?
- Klaviyo displays and bills in US dollars, including on its localized pricing pages. The calculator keeps those amounts without conversion so they match what you will see under Billing.
